The IIPM Blog wars: Varna also get sued!
I was in the middle of compiling an update on the IIPM saga when I came to know that Varna has also received a legal notice from IIPM! I am simply too dazed to write about it... I wish I could just laugh it off like Varna Now what? Just a few hundred more bloggers to be sued?
I don't know why but DesiPundit has also not been updated since a few hours and Ash's blog is also down. I just hope everything is alright over there...
Here is the compilation of all the interesting posts/comments I came across on the IIPM controversy...
No 1 on Technorati
The issue is still raging in the Indian blogosphere it has also spread to many non-Indian blogs too. Just go Desipundit for all the updates. So much so that IIPM has become the most searched item in Technorati at around 5:00PM IST today. And that is no easy feat.
MSM, where are you?
I am still waiting for newspapers and/or TV channels to pick up this controversy. I hope I will find some mention of this in tomorrow's newspapers. Varna is all ears for anybody who can help her go to the press. Now that she has got sued she needs our support all the more...
Some medicine...
Suhail Kazi has a nice quote in his blog sidebar: "One man plus courage is a majority". I agree but I say: "One man plus courage plus many bloggers is an overwhelming majority and a huge PR disaster for IIPM". Tacky, eh? Please don't run away, these guys do a much better job than me:
- The B.School That Lost Its Cool by Anantha Narayan
- IIPM students to burn degree certificates to protest defamation of institute by gawker
- IIPM to inaugurate new answering machine in Japan also by gawker
- The Lord of the Wrongs by Nirav
- Truth vs. clout by aparna
Freedom of expression
Huree and Patrix on how this whole thing is more about freedom of expression than anything else.
I quote Patrix:
If you do not respect your own possessions especially those that assist you in the pursuit of knowledge, I rather not have you running a company that I may have to deal with in the future.
Simply put, this fight is about freedom of expression – our inalienable right to freedom of speech. It isn’t simply a buzzword but an important aspect of a society that distinguishes it from communist or Taliban-esque rule.
Google bombing and Wikipedia
Sakshi and Sandeep say we should try googlebombing IIPM. A Google Bomb is 1 more potent weapon at our disposal... lets use it! Ravi says we should link to the IIPM entry in Wikipedia using the word 'IIPM'. He has even taken the pains to outlined how. Even at the writing this the article has shaped up quite nicely. Way to gang!
Hmmmmm....
Ravi says that IIPM is doomed and reasons thus:
Any institution however mediocre can improve with time. A commitment on providing relevant education over a period of time is bound to bring results. IIPM has taken a shortcut by blanking out all other institutes from newspapers through its heavy ad spend. This is forgivable. It can still improve if it has commitment. But this big bully has put its weight in crushing any voice raised against its false claims. This clears all doubts. If the promoters itself have no sense of ethics or responsibility, there is no hope for this institute. I am just sorry for all the gullible students that are and will be studying in this institute. I wouldn’t advise even an enemy to join this institute.
I agree.
So let’s keep up the fight. Let’s keep hammering the truth about IIPM. Ultimately it is not their reputation in the job market that they are bothered about. They don’t have a reputation. They don’t care much about whether their students get a job or not. They are only concerned about getting ignorant students who will pay their exorbitant fees. The more we keep up this pressure, the less chance that there remain people who are ignorant about the institute. Every post we make, every media mention we get will help.
Gaurav says thanks. You are most welcome man...

Email forwarding and discussion in forums have started. Referrer logs showed many people coming here from links in emails...
Tumble tumble...
Some more possible skeletons tumbling out from IIPM's closet:
- No Toronto office
- IIPM suspended from Outlook’s B-school survey for allegedly fudging data provided to the survey firm Cfore (Copy on ImageShack) (via DesiPundit)
Me still does not understand why IIPM is doing what it is doing. Sudhish ponders whether this is just another controversy. Dr JM also blogs on how IIPM has failed to manage the controversy.
