Completed an year in TCS

Exactly 1 year ago (it was a Monday) I joined TCS at their Corporate Learning Centre (CLC), Trivandrum.

What kind of emotions does this entail? Hmmmm... The completion of 1 year, at least in the life of a fresher has a special significance. Simply because:

  • I can cite a whole year of experience in my resume. When you are 23 and in your first job this does seem like a big deal. Though I am sure many years down the line I will think about this moment and simply smile.
  • My 'probation' period is over. I get confirmed which effectively means I get more moolah next month onwards :-)
  • I go from being an ASE-T to an ASE. I am no longer a 'trainee'. ASE stands for "Assistant Systems Engineer" by the way.

I am sure there must be a flurry of emails on the groups mailing list, I haven't checked my mail yet so I am not sure. I SMSed everybody in the morning today and also got back some replies.

So T39ers and all the other batches who joined TCS on this day last year: Congrats!

I also want to do some retrospection and want to write about the glorious period that was ILP but those will be the topics of some other posts some other day.

Just a thought, Is it A Year

Just a thought, Is it A Year or An Year. I always was of the opinion that the A or An was due to the phonetics.

it is "An year"

Due to the phonetics of the word "year" it is "an year" and not "a year". Similarly it is "an hour" and not "a hour".

There is also 1 example where the phoetics are ignored and what is actually used goes against this logic. But I cannot remember right now what that word is.

Thank You Iyengar Madam :-)
