Still raining :-(
Monday comes again and I am back to office as usual. Had a very nice and sleepy weekend. Its still raining cats and dogs here in Pune. There was a pause of about 2 days between the last spell of heavy rains. However it has been raining almost non-stop since Saturday afternoon (or was it Saturday early morning?) and it is still raining. The rains stop for a while, the skies lighten up and just when you are hopeful that after ages you will see some sun, bam! it rains again. The situation is much worse in Mumbai. Just when the city was limping back to normal after the heavy rains last week it has started to rain heavily again. And from what I hear from friends there it has been raining almost the whole of day.

Mumbai help blogs
Here are a couple of Mumbai rains related blogs (got these from Arnab's blog)

  • Mumbai Help - Surviving Mumbai - There is lot of useful info in there dealing with a number of things such as (I quote from the website) Hospital locations, Maps of rescue routes, addresses of doctors and medical workers, volunteer organizations, food and water points, safe roads and railway stations etc.
  • Cloudburst Mumbai - Again I quote from the website "This blog is not limited to news from the mainstream media. We also welcome personal accounts. Send us your blog links, share your stories with us, we want to hear them. Mail us at Cloudburst AT googlegroups DOT com"

Vineet's trip
I have many friends in Mumbai. And I always get a little worried when something bad happens there. However after a few calls I am usually reassured that everybody I know is sound and safe. However this time I am more worried than usual. Vineet is all set to fly to Paris from Mumbai this Saturday for his internship there. He was supposed to go to Mumbai by train from Bangalore but most of the trains have been canceled. Now he is flying to Mumbai from Bangalore. And hopefully his flight from Mumbai will be able to takeoff without any problems.. Right now I am just hoping that the situation improves quickly, both for the thousands of people facing difficulties and also for my brother.

Bai is back!
Well... not actually. However the aunty living below us took pity on us and arranged for s substitute bai till our regular bai comes back. Yippee!!

Matrix marathon
A sudden and inexplicable urge to watch the 2nd and 3rd of the Matrix movies grabbed me all of a sudden yesterday evening. So I went out and got Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. And watched them back to back. And I simply loved it. Even though I have watched all the 3 movies many times before I simply cannot get enough of them. Ages ago I had read the entire dialogue transcript for The Matrix on some site. One of these days I am going to do the same for Reloaded and Revelations.

Harry Potter
I have still not read the Half Blood Prince :-( I have been waiting for months for this book to get released and now that it is released I just cannot lay my hands on one. And as a true Harry Potter fan I simply refuse to read the pirated ebook version. I was desperately hoping that one of my friends will buy the actual thing and then lend it to me after s/he was through with it. But seems like the high price of the hard bound edition has been a major dampener on everybody's (including mine) plans. SOMEBODY PLEASE GIFT/LEND THE BOOK ME... PLEASE !! I am getting really desperate and I might do something foolish like go out and buy the book (something I can ill afford right now)

Matrix marathon

Submitted by sahil1982 on Sun, 07/08/2005 - 6:45am.

Omg thats what I call torture. I simply hate the second and third parts. So many things are left in the air, unexplained. I dont even remember them now but a lot of it was crap. They seem to have made the movie just for the sake of making them. I think it wasnt planned as a 3 movie story originally.

One of the things I remember was how come Neo gets special powers in real world. How could he stop those machines in the real world. And a lot of things like that which I wont even bother racking my brain to remember.

Anyways one things for sure. Whenever we meet next we are not having a Matrix marathon.

The 1st that hit me is that if we were to meet right now we would be having a nice heated discussion about what you said. I do miss all the discussions we used to have :-(

What you said about the 2nd and 3rd parts is true. Lot of things are unexplained. But that is true even for the 1st part. Scientifically there are a lot of goofups in the Matrix. Scriptwise I think 1 of the thigs that made Matrix 1 successful is that lot of things are left unexplained. A lot is dependent on the viewer's interpretation and imagination.

In the end it is obvious that there are 3 worlds inhabited by sentient beings, or rather 3 classes of sentient beings. 1 is obviously humans, 2 are the machines (shown in machine city) and 3rd are the programs in the Matrix.

If simple machines could evolve and have human-like properties, if simple programs could evolve and have emotions why can't a being like Neo have some special properties... in this case it is being able to control (to some extent) machine telepathically. Neo is anyways shown to be a special being, if u can accept that then his having special powers in the real world should also be plausible.

And this is only 1 of the explanations/interpretations. There are definitely more exotic theories possible and I am sure there are also some which are more realistic.

Anyways we are benchmarking things that supposedly happen after a 1000 years from now. So we cannot really apply today's rules. After all who knows where evolution leads us?

As I have mentioned in my post I had read lot of extra stuff about Matrix 1. I intend to do some reading about 2 and 3 if I get the time.
