Who me?

Born 24 25 years ago in the city of Ahmedabad, I now stay (and work) in Pune, New Delhi Mumbai. I like reading books and tinkering with things. My favourite colour is blue, favourite comic strips are Calvin and Hobbes and Piled Higher and Deeper and favourite poem is Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. I especially love the last stanza. I want to write a book, get a PhD, become a professor, invent a thing or two and become famous. Of course I wouldn't mind having a little (or lot of) fun on the way.

NOTE - I no longer blog here. Everything on this blog except for this line is as it is when I stopped blogging here. I now blog at http://varun.net.in/blog/

Google Analytics aa gaya!

Submitted by varun on Wed, 05/04/2006 - 8:10pm.

No time for a detailed post. I received a Google Analytics invite code a few days back and today I finally found the time to activate, configure and install it. So right now if you reading this on the blog itself then your visits are being logged by 3 packages: StatCounter, Performancing Metrics and Google Analytics. Only problem now is how do I get more traffic? Sheesh...

Bye for now.

I have been very busy lately and therefore blogging frequency has hit rock bottom. And unfortunately I will be very busy for at least the near future. However I will try to sneak in a short post now and then.

OK... here is the news in brief:

  • Am very busy at work. Am swamped with a number of assignments... almost all of them interesting but require lot of reading and learning on my part.
  • We (2 of my office colleagues and I) have shifted to a nice house in the even nicer Vasant Kunj area in South Delhi. We are almost settled except that we have to arrange for a stove and gas cylinder. Only drawback is that it is quite far from office.
  • It takes a lot of time commute to office. At least 50 minutes 1 way, possibly more depending on traffic conditions. This is something very new for me because I have never ever lived very far away from my place of work/study. There is only 1 bus that passes through out area and traveling in it is not a very pleasant experience usually. Especially in the evenings when coming back bhoot of Schumacher gets into the driver and we get a roller coaster ride for free. Buses in Delhi are simply terrible when compared to Mumbai or Pune.
  • Am missing family and friends. And chances of going home in the near future are quite bleak.
  • I have changed my mobile number yet again. This time for good. And this time no monkey business so if you want to know my new mobile number drop me an email at varunvnair gmail com. For those you who know my office email address feel free to email me there too.
  • Worked on a number of new things over the past 2 weeks. I am sure that I will be able to add a few more buzzwords to my resume in a few weeks time :-)

That’s all for now. Have to get back to work.

Performancing Metrics are a go!

Submitted by varun on Tue, 14/03/2006 - 8:29pm.

Performancing There is one thing that all bloggers like to do, apart from blogging that is. Can you guess what that thing is?

All bloggers love to keep a tab on the metrics for their blog. How many visitors read my latest post? How many people have subscribed to my blog feeds? How many readers are regular readers? From which sites were my readers referred to me? And many more similar fundas. Why? I guess for me the main reason is ego... I just want to know how 'interesting' my blog/posts are perceived to be. If you are a professional blogger or a blogger who plays to the gallery you could also use this info to tailor your posts to better suit the audience you are trying to target.

I just installed the latest kid on the metrics blog, Performancing metrics, on this blog. It is specifically targeted towards blogs... stats for my blog are yet to trickle in so I do not know what exactly that means but it will be interesting to see what stats are thrown up tomorrow. Most web stats packages are geared for use in general sites not necessarily blogs. They consequently do not have a number of metrics that make a lot of sense for blogs. Performancing metrics aims to fill in this gap.

My perfect lover

Submitted by varun on Sat, 11/03/2006 - 5:54pm.

This is a very emotional moment for me. I have been tagged for the first ever since this blog was born. *Sniff sniff* Very few of my friends blog and none of my blogger friends have ever tagged me. I always hoped that somebody would tag me, sometimes even thinking of just tagging myself but never got around to it.

I have been tagged by Koushik, author of My Days in Mumbai blog. The tag goes by the name of "Who can be my Lover?"... basically you try to articulate the qualities of your perfect lover.

Rules of the game are:

  1. The tagged victim has to come up with 8 different points of their perfect lover
  2. You have to mention the sex of the target.
  3. Tag 8 victims to join this game and leave a comment on their comments saying they've been tagged.
  4. If tagged the 2nd time, there's no need to post again.

Friday. My favourite day of the week. Because the weekend is here. However at least this weekend I will be working for at least one day and probably both days. I am not complaining though because I will be reading stuff most of the time and working on a presentation due for next week.
