Attitude problem

This blog serves many purposes. The most obvious being a place to pen down my thoughts and daily doings. A not-so-obvious purpose is as a testbed and learning ground for my experiments.

The original theme for this blog was designed using an already-existing theme and tweaking a lot of things here and there. The current theme has been designed from the ground up. The old theme used tables for layout and had a very bloated CSS file. The current theme uses semantic XHTML 1.0 Strict and reasonably lean CSS (though I want it to be leaner). For a visitor to this blog the changes are next to invisible. After all how many of my readers view the source in their browser and say 'Aha! So Varun has removed those nasty tables and his CSS statements are really nice'. Hardly anyone.

Blog reloaded

Warning: This post is full of gory technical details about the changes I have made to the blog. Read this only if you are interested in the internals of this blog. If you are in a hurry you can just read the stuff in strong/bold.

I recently upgraded my blog from Drupal 4.6.2 to Drupal 4.6.5. I have also made a number of small and big changes that I had been planning to implement since some time. Here I am posting various details about my Drupal setup as well as hacks I have implemented.

Since my blog is a single person blog it does not have all the bells and whistles Drupal is capable off. It is relatively simple setup as far as Drupal capabilities go. My goals were to have a simple but feature-rich blog. Please keep this in mind when reading the following stuff.

I am posting all this here for 2 reasons:
  1. Your feedback regarding any aspect of my blog would be appreciated. I want to know what I could have done better or in a different way. Feel free to comment on any aspect of the blog.
  2. This post might help people who want to use Drupal primarily for blogging. I consider my blog to be a reasonably decent setup for a blog powered by Drupal.

Back from exile

I am back! Its been a looooong time since I posted anything. I was quite busy with office work (still am). Of course me being lazy didn't help at all. I have missed out on a lot of stuff but rest assured that I will be blogging about all the important stuff (including Sahil's wedding). And hopefully I will be blogging more regularly from today.

I have also been tweaking the software that powers this blog (Drupal CMS) to implement some changes I wanted. As you can see this blog has a brand new look. Those of you reading this in a feed reader or an email please come out of there and visit the blog in a browser. Your comments, suggestions and questions are most welcome and appreciated. I have not tested this theme in many browsers so I particularly want to know (especially from Internet Explorer users) if it looks alright in your browser. You can leave your feedback in the comments to this post.

Blog tweaking in progress...

I have been tweaking the blog since a few days. I have been adding a few things, removing a few things and making some small changes here and there. Most of these changes are behind the scenes so you won't notice anything very different. I have also done a few things to make the blog a little leaner so that it load more quickly in your browser.

Some of the changes I am going to talk about are more than a week old and you might have noticed them by now. However I have not blogged about them per se so I will list them anyway...

Santosh Kumar thinks that this site looks cool.

Do you?

Each one of us has his/her pet likes and dislikes as far as the look and feel of websites go. Some like websites with a dark look and feel and some with a light background. What is your opinion about this blog? Do you like the colours that are used? The layout? Do you find all the elements placed intuitively or do you have to grope around for stuff?

If you were to make suggestions what would they be?
