My perfect lover

Submitted by varun on Sat, 11/03/2006 - 5:54pm.

This is a very emotional moment for me. I have been tagged for the first ever since this blog was born. *Sniff sniff* Very few of my friends blog and none of my blogger friends have ever tagged me. I always hoped that somebody would tag me, sometimes even thinking of just tagging myself but never got around to it.

I have been tagged by Koushik, author of My Days in Mumbai blog. The tag goes by the name of "Who can be my Lover?"... basically you try to articulate the qualities of your perfect lover.

Rules of the game are:

  1. The tagged victim has to come up with 8 different points of their perfect lover
  2. You have to mention the sex of the target.
  3. Tag 8 victims to join this game and leave a comment on their comments saying they've been tagged.
  4. If tagged the 2nd time, there's no need to post again.

Hmmmm... interesting. I am reading a book called Blink by Malcolm Gladwell right now. Actually I have been reading it since many days but it is somewhat boring so am not motivated enough to finish it. One of the case studies in that book is a psychology experiment and the conclusion of the experiment is that most people are not very good at describing the qualities they look for in a partner. It is not that their language skills are not good enough... it is that they themselves are not very aware of the kind of person they want to be with i.e. in simple words they think they like certain qualities but most often this list of qualities is incomplete and sometimes inaccurate. Ok here goes nothing.

My perfect lover would be definitely be a female. Am totally straight and there are no 2 ways about it.

In a nutshell my mate would complement me, we would have some similarities and some dissimilarities. Here are the qualities I think my perfect lover should have. I have divided the list into 'important' qualities and 'less important' qualities.

Important qualities:

  1. Should be Intelligent: She should not be a dumb bombshell. Beauty with brains is what I am attracted to. Thinking back on my crushes I think brains are a higher priority. She should be able to think through things, have the ability to argue logically, ability to comprehend a new topic etc. In fact my first serious crush (serious crush: is this an oxymoron?) ever was a brainy nerd classmate of mine with specs and braces... I think I used to like her for her IQ, the ease with which she used to do Math, her interest in Science... you get the idea. Btw she no longer wears specs and the braces are long gone :-)
  2. Should be Pretty: No justification for this. She need not be Miss World, she need not be a sexy bombshell... but she should be good looking, have a good sense of fashion, partly to make up for the lack of mine.
  3. Should be Broadminded: She should have an open mind regarding new things. She should be able to listen to new ideas and new thoughts without being prejudiced and should have the ability to logically reason out things. I do not like rigid uptight people.
  4. Should NOT be overly religious: I am an atheist, so she should not be overly religious. I don't mind her being a little religious but I am sure I won't be able to get along well with a person who is overly religious.
  5. Should be Bubbly and Energetic: She should be a bundle of energy always ready to do masti with me. She should not be Miss Civilized always prim and proper. She should not abhor pillow fights, wrestling matches... you get the idea.
  6. Should be Good listener: She should be a good listener, one who can listen to both my troubles and joys with equal ease. I like to yak a lot and she should be OK with this.
  7. Should be an Extrovert: She should not be a total introvert. She should be outgoing and at ease with new people. My family and friends mean a lot to me she should make a genuine attempt at knowing them and hopefully getting along well with them.
  8. Should be an Independent person: I value my private space and she should understand this. She should also have an life of her own. I have seen many couples who cling to each other all the time and they are big time turn-offs for me.
  9. Should share my set of Values and Ethics: I don't think I need to explain this.

Less important qualities

  1. Should be a Good cook: I am terrible at cooking and am fed up of outside food so she should at least be a decent cook. I would definitely help her in the cooking but only with labour-intensive tasks and washing the vessels afterwards. Basically mera bheja nahi chalta in cooking so she should have an aptitude for cooking.
  2. Should be an Avid Reader: I do not mind what she reads as long as she reads something. I believe that a strong reading habit is an invaluable skill to have, professionally and in personal life. Reading makes a person more wholesome, expands her horizons and makes for a better person in general.
  3. Should be a Geek and should have a reasonable knowledge of Computers: I debated about putting in this point but if you are talking about my perfect lover then this is definitely true. I would especially love it if she is a Linux geek, though frankly I have never ever met (online or in the real world) a female Linux geek. Computers are something that interest me very much so it would be great if she could comprehend what I am talking about... and I would love to listen to her inputs.

Whew... thats a looong list, longer than the 8 warranted by the rules of the game, but I could not stop myself once I got going. I am sure there are many more but for the time being these will do.

I hereby exercise the powers vested in me as a blogger and tag the following people (listed in no particular order) and urge them to pick up this tag:

  • JhQuest: Long time friend, stubborn, opinionated, stubborn but most important of all outspoken. We have agreed to disagree perennially and you can imagine what happens when we meet. I am looking forward to his post when he picks up this tag.
  • Destiny Law: School friend who disappeared for a few years before reappearing on my radar. Is an aspiring law student and writes quite well.
  • Shantanu: Again a school friend, a closet poet... a person I sometimes find weird, but whose company I always enjoy.
  • Ramnath R Iyer: I found his blog when searching for DA-IICT on Technorati. He writes on varied topics, writes well and often throws up new ideas. I enjoy reading his posts.
  • Varna: One of my favourite bloggers. She is an amazing writer and has a knack of getting into trouble... needless to say her blog is very interesting. She has a nice way of putting things and lives in the same city as I do. Though I do not always agree with her I like her posts for the different angle she often takes.
  • Anna: Hers was one of the first blogs in my blogroll. She gave up blogging a few months back and even deleted her blog. She promised to resume blogging many weeks back but no blog till date. Hi Anna... if you are reading this how about starting a blog right now?

OK... here are a few more people I tag. These tags are probably illegal and nonsensical since these people don't have blogs... however these are some of my friends who I always hope will start blogging. Maybe his tag will make them start a blog. What say guys? How about starting a WordPress.com blog right now?

  • Pratik a.k.a Bantu.
  • Madhuri.
  • Sahil.
  • Janak.
  • Pallavi from Amravati, Maharashtra.
  • Punit Todi.

:D A knack for getting into trouble eh?... btw your main page says u still live in Pune... hmmm! I just picked up your tag here:

http://varna.wordpress.com/2006/03/11/tagged-again/

Am I right or wrong?

Submitted by varun on Sat, 11/03/2006 - 8:44pm.

I am right, aren't I? I always feel that you are getting into trouble, not necessarily unnecessarily. Sometimes it is the police, sometimes it is a faculty member, sometimes it is a friend... you get my point :-)

Thanks for pointing out that the 'About Me' section on the main page was incorrect. Why didn't I notice that?

Linux Geek?

Thanks Varun, I'll pick up the tag in a day or too, after doing some serious thinking. :-)

BTW, with all due respect to the fair sex, I don't think there's any such thing as a female Linux geek. Every girl I know tunes out when I mention anything about computers...and that is in a technology institute! Even those who like computers don't love computers.

Somebody prove me wrong. :-D

Dude, the same goes to you too. It's been a while now... you are not phasing out are you!?

Nah

Submitted by JhQ (not verified) on Tue, 14/03/2006 - 6:02am.

Nah dude, I was overseas and the hectic schedule didn't leave much motivation for me to blog but now I am back in town and blogging again.
Varun, this tag business seems a bit funny to me, but I'll pick it up in a few days....

of course it is funny

Submitted by varun on Tue, 14/03/2006 - 9:44am.

Yep. This tag business is definitely funny. But I don't mind as it gives me something to blog about without racking my brains too much. And since many bloggers blog about the same thing (whatever it is) you can make comparisons, find different angles etc.

Of course an ulterior motive is to get more incoming links and more readers :-) Btw feel free to ignore a tag if you do not want to blog about it. Its no big deal.

Will pick it up

Submitted by JhQ (not verified) on Tue, 14/03/2006 - 11:45am.

K, i'll give it a shot, will pick up the tag over the weekend...

cheers

Picked up the tag and tagged you back here

Not allowed

Submitted by varun on Mon, 20/03/2006 - 10:34am.

You are not allowed to tag me back. You read so many blogs... why don't you tag some other bloggers so that the chain spreads.

Haha!!

Submitted by Shantanu (not verified) on Tue, 21/03/2006 - 1:11am.

Read the rules man!

"Rule#4: If tagged the 2nd time, there's no need to post again."

JhQuest, you should just go tag random people, that could be quite some fun.

Height of laziness

Submitted by varun on Tue, 21/03/2006 - 9:32am.

Tagging the person who tagged you is the height of laziness!

This is a funny tag

Submitted by JhQ (not verified) on Tue, 21/03/2006 - 1:37pm.

Dude, how do I tag a mate whose blog name is "Unrepentent Marxist" about "My Perfect lover", am sure he won't even bother picking it up, unfortunatly most of the people I know in the blogworld are like that...

Just try

Submitted by varun on Tue, 21/03/2006 - 2:04pm.

No harm in trying, is there? Maybe he is waiting for someone to tag him so he has an excuse to blog about this. Just try.

I was glad being the first

Submitted by koushik (not verified) on Tue, 21/03/2006 - 10:57am.

I was glad being the first blogger to tag you. I would have visited your post sooner but I had taken a trip home and was out of touch from internet.

Looks like you have done more than what was asked for (adding minor points to major ones!). And what I feel now after reading your post is that I should have done the same. I missed some points, I think -:)

Want me to tag you again?

Submitted by varun on Tue, 21/03/2006 - 1:59pm.

I know a number of lazy bloggers whom I can ask to tag you back :-)

After reading a number of posts on this topic by my friends I also feel like going back and adding a few things to what I had written earlier. Maybe I will do it one of these days.
