Attitude problem

This blog serves many purposes. The most obvious being a place to pen down my thoughts and daily doings. A not-so-obvious purpose is as a testbed and learning ground for my experiments.

The original theme for this blog was designed using an already-existing theme and tweaking a lot of things here and there. The current theme has been designed from the ground up. The old theme used tables for layout and had a very bloated CSS file. The current theme uses semantic XHTML 1.0 Strict and reasonably lean CSS (though I want it to be leaner). For a visitor to this blog the changes are next to invisible. After all how many of my readers view the source in their browser and say 'Aha! So Varun has removed those nasty tables and his CSS statements are really nice'. Hardly anyone.

I was(/am) very happy with this redesign. It is my first serious effort at tableless layout and some heavy duty CSS and the end results are decent enough. However lately I have realised that the theme comes across as cold and uninspiring. This blog does not have a 'character'... it does not have an attitude if you know what I mean.

So what I am going to do is chuck this theme and cook up a new one. The theme many not be reusable but the knowledge definitely is. So guys watch out for another, more dashing theme, a theme with an attitude. It will have more colours (but not Govinda-style), more spunk, cleaner regions and a more memorable look and feel.

Did I hear you say 'When?' ? I really don't know. I have a lot of reading lined up in the coming days, a home trip, a trip to Bangalore etc. Optimistically 2 weeks. But probably many more.
