Home trip

I came back to Pune early morning yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip home and I wish I could stay there for a few more days.

The bus ride to Ahmedabad was more comfortable than I had expected and wonder of wonders the bus arrived in Ahmedabad on schedule. This made the entire experience less painless and I arrived home hale and hearty. Saturday was spent lazing around at home. Saw TV for many hours (we have a brand new widescreen TV!).

We saw the animation film Hanuman in the evening. It is a thoroughly forgettable movie. I did not like a single thing about the movie. It does have better animation than other animation films made in India but it is nothing compared to the kind of animation and special effects one is used to nowadays. The least the creators could have done is put more heart and soul into the main characters. There is absolutely nothing innovative about the characters. All the rakshasas (is that the correct plural of rakshas?) look insipid, Hanuman looks ultraboring and most of the characters look as if they belong to a static comic strip instead of an animation film. The dialogues will put you to sleep and the entire story unfolds in a haphazard manner. The songs are the only somewhat nice things in the movie. They have nice fast beats and buzz around in your head for some time. All in all a big disappointment especially considering the rave reviews I had got from many of my friends.

Woke up early on Sunday morning to have breakfast with Dad (his weekly off is on Saturday). Then Mom and I went to Pratik's house. My Mom wanted to meet Pratik's Mom. The 2 mommies finally met and fortunately no damaging information was exchanged regarding their respective sons :-)

Then Mom and I went to Amuma's (Naani/maternal granny) place for lunch. Sambaar is the best part of Amuma's meals. She makes the best sambaar in the world and I have already made her promise me that she will teach my wife her patented method of making sambaar.

Then Mom and I went to Crossword to buy some music CDs. That was followed by a whirlwind tour of furniture shops to checkout some stuff Mom wants to by. In the evening Dad and I went out and bought some things I wanted to buy.

Gunjan had flown in that day. Namrata (who had come to Ahmedabad) and I went to see Gunjan after dinner. It was nice meeting him after so many months. He has lost some weight, has got his eyebrow pierced and speaks with a pakka firang accent but except for these things he has not changed. He still remains as opinionated and as argumentative as ever (in a nice way). We didn't have much time to talk (=fight) about anything and Namrata was spared from witnessing one of our spirited (=longwinded and endless) debates :-)

I was returning on Monday and finally the last day of my longish weekend came. Monday brought in its wake some more shopping, lunch with Amuma and frenzied packing (was locked out of the house and could get in only when Dad came to pick me up). Train was on time. Spent my waking hours completing Freakonomics and reading some more of Pride and Prejudice. It was a boring journey overall... no fights between passengers, no restless kids and none of the excitement you sometimes witness on Indian trains. Reached room early morning on Tuesday, got some zzzzzs and went to work as usual.
